
GE Energy and University of Wyoming are participating in a joint venture to construct a coal gasification test facility in Wyoming to test gasification of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin coal. Cheyenne to be the site of the High Plains Coal Gasification Test Center. Each has contributed $50 million to the project. The facility, the High Plains Advanced Gasificatication Test Center will give GE access to important test data that can be used to improve their gasification technology with regards to Powder River Basin coal. It will provide the State of Wyoming and the University of Wyoming a platform for eductation and development of coal gasification projects in Wyoming.
Since State funds are involved proposals were solicited from counties for the test center site. The site selection process is complete. GE Energy and the University of Wyoming have announced that the new facility will be located east of Cheyenne.

Probably the best way to obtain information is to call the GE Energy division of GE. GE Energy is the GE division that licenses gasification technology and is located in Houston, Texas.
