Mississippi Power received an offer for federal funding for the Kemper County, Mississippi coal gasification plant. The feedstock will be lignite that is plentiful in Mississippi.
The facility will use the KBR Transport Integrated Gasification (TRIG) technology. Mississippi Power applied for the air permit in March 2009. The CO2 produced by the facility will compressed and transported via pipeline to be used for enhanced oil recovery in mature oil fields.
On November 9, 2009, the Mississippi Public Service Commission ruled that there is proof of need for additional power as soon as 2014. This ruling was necessary to continue forward with the project.
The Mississippi Power gasification project will assure the residents of Mississippi a source of abundant power and will provide skilled, high paying jobs.
